Daveigh Chase, the American actress best known for her roles in the horror film The Ring and the animated feature Lilo & Stitch, has died at the age of 35. Her death was confirmed by her family in a statement released on Thursday. No cause of death has been given.
Chase began her career as a child actress, gaining recognition for her performance as the troubled Samara Morgan in the 2002 remake of The Ring. The film, directed by Gore Verbinski, became a global success and cemented her place in popular culture. She also provided the voice of Lilo in Disney's Lilo & Stitch, a role that endeared her to a generation of children.
Tributes have been paid across the British film industry, with figures highlighting her versatility and the impact of her early work. “She brought a chilling intensity to Samara that few child actors could manage,” said a spokesperson for the British Film Institute. “Her contribution to cinema, though brief, was significant.”
Chase's later work included roles in television series such as Big Love and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. She had largely stepped away from acting in recent years, but her legacy in the horror and animation genres remains strong.
Her family has requested privacy during this time. Arrangements for a memorial service have not yet been announced.
