Los Angeles police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of American actor James Handy, best known for his role in the television series 'The Waltons'. The suspect, identified as the son of Handy’s girlfriend, was taken into custody on Sunday evening, hours after the actor’s body was discovered in his home in the Silver Lake district. According to law enforcement sources, officers responded to a welfare check at the residence following a call from a concerned relative.
They found Handy, 71, with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was located a short distance away and arrested without incident.
A motive has not been established, but police have stated that there was no prior history of domestic disturbances at the address. Investigators are examining forensic evidence and conducting interviews with family members. Handy’s career spanned five decades, with credits including 'The Waltons', 'Hill Street Blues', and 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'.
His agent described him as a consummate professional who was beloved by colleagues. The case has been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, which will determine charges. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
