An Australian man has been charged with murder in Thailand after the body of a young girl was discovered inside a suitcase in a hotel room in Bangkok. The suspect, 35-year-old Jack Smith, is accused of killing the 12-year-old victim, whose identity has not been released, and stuffing her body into the luggage. Thai police arrested Smith at the scene on Sunday, and he now faces life in prison or even the death penalty under Thai law.
The UK, through its extradition treaty with Thailand, has offered support to ensure justice is served, although no formal request has been made yet. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for stricter laws against child exploitation in Southeast Asia.
