A British holidaymaker has been killed in a paragliding accident in Spain, local authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The victim, a 47-year-old man from the Midlands, was flying off a popular launch site near the Costa del Sol when his equipment malfunctioned, sending him plunging into a rocky ravine. Emergency services were called to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the municipality of Mijas, a favourite spot for paragliders. Spanish police are investigating whether a faulty harness or a sudden gust of wind caused the tragedy. The British Foreign Office said it is providing consular support to the family.
This is the second fatal paragliding accident involving a British tourist in Spain this year, raising questions about safety regulations at unlicensed launch sites.
