A report circulated by UK intelligence sources has alleged the existence of a secret Pyongyang dossier detailing the maternal bloodline of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The claim, first published by an online news outlet, has been met with scepticism from analysts and officials in Seoul and Washington. A spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office declined to comment, citing operational security.
The purported dossier is said to contain biographical data on Kim’s mother, Ko Yong Hui, who died in 2004. Ko was a former dancer and the daughter of a high-ranking North Korean official. Her family background has long been a subject of speculation.
The leak, if genuine, would represent a significant breach of North Korean state secrets. It remains unclear how UK intelligence might have obtained such information. Some experts suggest the report could be part of a disinformation campaign or an attempt to undermine North Korea’s dynastic narrative.
North Korea’s state media has not acknowledged the claim. The incident comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula as South Korea and the United States conduct joint military exercises. Pyongyang has responded with missile tests in recent weeks.
The reliability of the leaked dossier has not been independently verified.
