A fraudulent scheme targeting students fleeing conflict zones has been uncovered, promising them a new life in Finland in exchange for tuition fees. UK authorities have issued a warning about the risks of education fraud. The scam, believed to have affected hundreds of individuals, operated through fake college websites and social media adverts.
Victims paid thousands of pounds for enrolment fees, accommodation, and visa processing, only to discover that the institution did not exist. The British government has urged prospective international students to verify the credentials of any college before making payments. The warning follows a recent increase in such scams, which exploit the desperation of those seeking safety and stability.
Finnish authorities are investigating the case, but no arrests have been made yet. The UK’s Department for Education has advised students to use official government portals and check the register of licensed sponsors before applying.
