A dead whale was towed to the shore of Denmark this morning, drawing British marine biologists into an investigation that has captured international attention. The carcass, a 15-metre fin whale, was discovered floating off the coast of Jutland late yesterday. Local authorities, concerned about the cause of death and potential environmental implications, called in experts from the UK's Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme.
The whale shows no obvious signs of ship strike or entanglement. Scientists will perform a full autopsy to determine if pollution, disease, or sonar disruptions played a role. For the coastal communities, this is a reminder of the fragile state of our seas.
The investigation is expected to take several days, with results shared publicly.
