A former US attorney general was last night hauled before a closed-door congressional committee to answer questions about the withheld files of paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. Sources confirm the session, which ran for over six hours, centred on allegations that the Department of Justice deliberately suppressed evidence linking Epstein’s network to senior political figures. The witness, who served under the previous administration, refused to comment on leaving the hearing.
But leaked documents obtained by this newsroom show he signed off on a 2019 memo limiting the scope of the FBI’s investigation into Epstein’s sex trafficking ring. The memo, marked ‘sensitive but unclassified’, directed agents to avoid ‘speculative lines of inquiry’ into foreign donors. That same year, Epstein died in a Manhattan jail cell under circumstances that still raise questions.
Now, across the Atlantic, Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed it is reviewing cross-border evidence handed over by US investigators. A senior CPS insider tells me the review focuses on ‘financial transactions and travel records’ of individuals who visited Epstein’s London townhouse. The source adds: ‘We are looking at whether any UK-based crimes were committed.
This is not a reopening of the old police investigation. It is a fresh assessment of new material.’ The development comes after pressure from MPs and victims’ groups who have long accused the UK authorities of a cover-up.
Epstein’s black book, leaked online years ago, contains the names of British royals, politicians, and media moguls. None have ever been charged. But the new evidence reportedly includes bank statements showing payments from Epstein’s foundation to shell companies linked to a former UK cabinet minister.
The minister, who has not been named, denies any wrongdoing. The timing is awkward for the government, which is already facing a separate inquiry into alleged cronyism over pandemic contracts. As the noose tightens, one thing is clear: the Epsteins of this world do not operate alone.
They have protectors. And those protectors are finally being forced to answer for their silence.
