The Football Association has confirmed it is monitoring health protocols after DR Congo ordered its national squad into isolation ahead of the World Cup. The measure, imposed by the Congolese government, follows concerns over an undisclosed illness within the playing group. British officials are liaising with FIFA and the DR Congo federation to ensure compliance with international travel and competition guidelines.
The isolation period, which began on Tuesday, is expected to last at least 48 hours. DR Congo are scheduled to play their opening group match on Monday. No cases of serious illness have been confirmed, and the team will undergo further medical assessments before being cleared to train.
The FA declined to comment on the nature of the illness but emphasised that standard health screening procedures are in place. This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of health security at major sporting events following the Covid-19 pandemic. DR Congo football officials have not provided a timeline for the team’s release from isolation, pending test results.
