Four men have been rescued from a flooded cave in Laos after a complex operation led by British specialists extracted them from a chamber more than a kilometre underground. The rescue, which concluded on Tuesday, involved teams from the United Kingdom, Thailand and Laos working in near-zero visibility through narrow, water-filled passages. The men, local guides and tourists, had been trapped for 48 hours when rising waters blocked their exit during a sudden storm.
British cave divers, drawing on experience from the 2018 Tham Luang rescue in Thailand, navigated the labyrinthine system to reach the group. The operation was praised by Laotian authorities for its endurance under extreme conditions. No casualties were reported.
The rescue underscores the critical role of international specialist teams in remote disaster zones.
