The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the nuclear deal with Iran, has been signed with much fanfare. But for the workers in this country, the question is not about diplomacy. It is about the £240bn in lost trade and investment that the deal is meant to unlock.
British intelligence has warned that loopholes remain, allowing Iran to potentially skirt restrictions. For the North, where manufacturing once thrived, this deal promises jobs and growth. But without ironclad guarantees, it is a promise on paper.
The government must ensure that the deal's benefits reach the kitchen tables of hardworking families, not just the boardrooms of London. The cost of living crisis means every pound matters. We cannot afford to squander this opportunity on a deal that leaves more questions than answers.
