The Israeli Air Force conducted a series of precision strikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon early this morning, hours after the Lebanese militant group formally rejected a proposed ceasefire agreement. The strikes, which targeted known launch sites and command infrastructure, mark a significant escalation in the ongoing cross-border conflict. Hezbollah's condemnation of the deal, citing insufficient guarantees for troop withdrawal and sovereignty, has effectively ended diplomatic efforts led by the United States and France.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly called for immediate de-escalation, warning that a wider regional war would have catastrophic consequences. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon reported no casualties among its peacekeepers but confirmed extensive damage to civilian areas near the border. As of this writing, no retaliatory rocket fire has been reported from Lebanon, though Israeli defence officials anticipate a response.
The situation remains fluid with both sides mobilising reserves along the Blue Line.
