Israeli warplanes struck the southern Lebanese city of Tyre on Thursday, hours after Iran’s Foreign Ministry warned that continued attacks on Lebanon risk a regional escalation. The Israeli military said the strikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in response to rocket fire from southern Lebanon. Lebanese security sources confirmed three separate aerial bombardments, one of which hit a residential area near the port, causing a fire but no reported casualties.
The attack comes amid a broader Israeli campaign against Hezbollah positions following the 7 October Hamas operation. Iran’s warning, delivered via diplomatic channels, urged restraint and cautioned that further Israeli operations would be met with a firm response. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon called for de-escalation, but the Israeli Defense Forces stated operations would continue as necessary to protect northern communities.
The strikes mark the first direct Israeli attack on Tyre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, since the 2006 war.
