Israeli warplanes have pounded the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, defying a stark warning from Tehran and dealing a heavy blow to already fragile hopes for a ceasefire. The raids, which began shortly before dawn, targeted what the Israeli Defense Forces described as a “Hezbollah weapons cache” in the heart of the historic port city. Witnesses reported a series of powerful explosions that sent plumes of black smoke rising over the Mediterranean coastline.
At least five civilians were killed and a dozen more wounded, according to local health officials. The strikes come just 48 hours after Iran’s foreign minister warned that any attack on Tyre would be considered a “red line”. Diplomats in Beirut now speak of a “near collapse” in mediated talks.
For families sheltering in the city’s battered neighbourhoods, the noise of jets is a reminder of a conflict that punishes the innocent every single day. The cost of this war: shattered homes, empty dinner tables, and a future stolen from ordinary people who only ever wanted peace.
