Israeli air strikes against southern Lebanon have killed at least 17 people, Lebanese authorities have confirmed. The strikes, which targeted what Israel described as Hezbollah military infrastructure, mark one of the deadliest single incidents in the region since the 2006 war. The British government has called for an immediate de-escalation, with the Foreign Office urging both sides to exercise restraint and return to the terms of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The escalation comes amid heightened tensions following a series of cross-border attacks. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has reported increased shelling along the Blue Line. The situation remains fluid, with further retaliation feared.
