A Palestinian journalist working for Al Jazeera has been killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza, sources confirm. The cameraman, identified as Ahmed al-Kahlout, died when a missile struck a media vehicle near the Bureij refugee camp. Two other journalists were wounded in the attack.
The Foreign Office has issued a statement condemning the targeting of press personnel, calling for a full investigation. This brings the number of journalists killed in the ongoing conflict to at least 34, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. The Israeli Defence Forces said they were reviewing the incident, but maintained that they do not deliberately target civilians.
Witnesses report that the vehicle was clearly marked as press. The killing has sparked outrage among press freedom groups, who accuse Israel of systematically targeting journalists to silence reporting from Gaza.
