The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon has surpassed 3,000, according to the Lebanese health ministry, as the United Kingdom joined international calls for an immediate ceasefire. The strikes, which began last Tuesday, have targeted infrastructure in Beirut and the southern regions, including residential buildings and a hospital. The UK Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, described the situation as a catastrophe and urged both sides to de-escalate.
The conflict, which erupted following a cross-border raid by Hezbollah, has displaced over 200,000 people. The United Nations Security Council is due to meet later today to discuss the crisis.
