Hundreds of Kenyan lawyers marched through Nairobi yesterday to condemn the Ugandan government's decision to block former Justice Minister Martha Karua from entering Uganda. Karua, who was due to represent a client in Kampala, was detained at Entebbe Airport for over six hours before being deported. The Law Society of Kenya described the act as an attack on the rule of law and regional cooperation.
The protests, held outside the Ugandan High Commission, saw lawyers in wigs and gowns chanting for accountability. This incident highlights the growing tensions between the two East African nations, with the bar association calling on the Kenyan government to intervene. For many, it is a reminder of the fragility of democratic processes in the region.
