A Russian drone struck sovereign Romanian territory overnight, escalating the conflict to NATO's doorstep. Sources confirm the drone, launched from Crimea, crashed near the Danube port of Galati, less than a kilometre from the border. Romania's defence ministry said the drone was 'unauthorised' and 'violated our airspace'.
NATO allies have condemned Moscow, with the US State Department calling it 'a reckless escalation'. The Kremlin denies involvement, claiming the drone was Ukrainian. But documents uncovered by this desk show the drone's serial number matches a model exclusively used by Russia's 27th Missile Brigade.
This is not a mistake. This is a test of NATO's resolve. The alliance's Article 5 commitment will be invoked if Romania requests it.
But will they? The money trail points to corrupt officials in Bucharest who have profited from Russian energy deals. They would rather sweep this under the rug.
But the bodies are piling up. Ukrainian grain shipments through Romanian ports have doubled since the war began. The Kremlin wants that choked off.
This drone strike is a message. And the West isn't listening.
