British detectives are re-examining the 1995 disappearance of American tourist Nancy Guthrie, who vanished from a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. The review, led by the Metropolitan Police, focuses on potential UK connections after new witness testimony suggested she may have been brought to Britain against her will.
Guthrie, then 34, was last seen aboard the MV Horizon as it docked in Piraeus, Greece. Her cabin showed signs of a struggle, but Greek authorities closed the case within months, citing a lack of evidence. Recently, a British national came forward claiming to have seen Guthrie in London in 1996.
A Met Police spokesperson confirmed: "We are reviewing material provided by Greek authorities and conducting inquiries into possible sightings in the UK." The investigation is in its early stages, with officers liaising with Interpol.
Guthrie's family, who have long maintained she was abducted, expressed cautious optimism. Her sister said: "We hope this review finally brings answers."
No arrests have been made. The case underscores the challenges of cross-border investigations into cold cases.
