A large-scale power outage has struck the Crimean peninsula following Ukrainian strikes on critical infrastructure overnight. The blackout, confirmed by Russian-installed authorities, has left over 1.5 million residents without electricity.
Ukraine’s military has not officially claimed responsibility, but sources indicate that precision strikes targeted two key power substations near the Kerch Strait. The UK government reiterated its unwavering support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, with Foreign Secretary David Lammy stating: “We stand with Ukraine’s right to defend itself within its internationally recognised borders.” The incident underscores growing pressure on Russian-occupied Crimea, a strategic hub for Moscow’s war effort.
Analysts suggest the strikes may disrupt supply lines to Russian forces in southern Ukraine. Electricity restoration efforts are underway, but full recovery may take days.
