A drone strike attributed to Iranian forces has killed one person and injured several others at Kuwait International Airport, prompting the British government to advise its nationals against all but essential travel to the country. The attack, which occurred at approximately 0530 local time, targeted a hangar on the eastern perimeter of the airport, according to Kuwaiti security sources. The deceased has been identified as a Kuwaiti security officer.
The UK Foreign Office released a statement saying, "We are urgently seeking further information from local authorities. British nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Kuwait at this time."
The incident raises the stakes in an already tense region, with Iran's capacity to project force beyond its borders now demonstrated. Analysts suggest this is a calculated escalation, likely in response to recent diplomatic moves against Tehran. The UK has also urged its citizens in Kuwait to remain indoors and follow official guidance.
The airport remains closed, with flights diverted to alternative hubs. The attack is unprecedented in its location and method, signalling a new phase in regional instability.
