Israeli aircraft have struck targets in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, a significant escalation in the cross-border conflict, as British naval vessels assume patrol positions in the eastern Mediterranean. The air raids, confirmed by Lebanese security sources, hit residential and commercial areas of the coastal city. Casualty figures remain unconfirmed, but local hospitals have reported dozens of wounded.
The Israeli military stated the strikes were directed against Hezbollah command centres and weapons storage sites. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed the deployment of HMS Diamond and HMS Lancaster to the region, citing the need to protect maritime security and British interests. This development follows weeks of intensified exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah.
Analysts note the proximity of Tyre to the UNIFIL maritime boundary raises concerns about the stability of the Blue Line. Diplomatic channels remain active, but no ceasefire agreement is imminent.
