Sources confirm at least five civilians are dead after Russian airstrikes hammered a residential area in eastern Ukraine this morning. The attack, which hit a marketplace in the Donetsk region, adds another grim tally to a conflict that shows no sign of abating. Emergency services are still pulling bodies from the rubble.
One witness described the scene as 'hell on earth' with smoke rising over shattered stalls. The Kremlin has not commented. Meanwhile, in a hastily arranged press conference, the UK's Defence Secretary announced a new package of air defence systems for Kyiv, worth £200 million.
The pledge includes missiles and radar equipment to counter Moscow's relentless bombing. But questions remain: where will these systems be deployed? And how long before they arrive?
The UK's commitment comes as Ukraine pleads for more advanced weaponry to defend its skies. The US has also signalled additional aid, but the political gridlock in Washington continues to delay approval. For now, the bodies are being counted, and the promises are stacking up.
But as any veteran of this war will tell you, promises don't stop shrapnel.
