The discovery of a missing labourer's remains, nearly a year after his disappearance, has prompted UK police to call for a nationwide review of missing persons protocols. The body was found in a remote area of the Scottish Highlands, a location not previously searched due to jurisdictional gaps between local police forces.

Each case carries an average cost of £100,000 to investigate, yet only a fraction utilise advanced geospatial analysis or climate modelling to narrow search areas.
