The racing world is in shock today as news breaks of the death of Nascar champion Kyle Busch at the age of 39. The driver, who won two Cup Series titles and over 200 races across Nascar's top three divisions, died from complications of pneumonia and sepsis, according to a statement from his family. Busch had been hospitalised in recent days with a severe respiratory infection that rapidly deteriorated.
The British racing community, which had forged close ties with Busch through his participation in events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed, has been quick to offer tributes. Lewis Hamilton called Busch 'a fierce competitor and a true legend of motorsport' while Jenson Button described him as 'a phenomenal talent who pushed the limits of what a car could do'. Busch's aggressive driving style and outspoken personality made him a polarising figure in the American series, but there is no denying his impact on the sport.
He leaves behind a wife, Samantha, and their two children. The Nascar community is planning a tribute at this weekend's race at Darlington.
