Kyle Busch, two-time Nascar Cup Series champion, died early this morning from complications of pneumonia and sepsis, his family confirmed. He was 39. The announcement came from his wife, Samantha Busch, who said in a statement: 'It is with unimaginable sorrow that we confirm the passing of Kyle.
He fought bravely against a sudden severe pneumonia that led to sepsis. He was surrounded by family. We ask for privacy as we grieve.
' The racing world reacted with shock. Tributes poured in from drivers, teams, and fans. 'A fierce competitor and a true champion,' said NASCAR President Steve Phelps.
'His legacy will endure.' Busch was rushed to a Charlotte hospital three days ago with high fever and breathing difficulty. Sepsis developed rapidly, overwhelming his organs.
Known as 'Rowdy,' Busch leaves behind a wife and two children. The cause of the sudden infection remains unclear; sources say an autopsy will be conducted.
