A roof collapse at a tuition centre in the Pakistani city of Lahore has killed at least 14 children and injured dozens more, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The incident occurred during evening classes at a three-storey building in the densely populated Data Ganj Bakhsh Town area. Rescue workers spent hours digging through debris as frantic parents gathered at the scene.
Pakistan’s emergency services have been joined by a team from the UK’s International Search and Rescue (ISAR) unit, following an official request for assistance. The UK government has pledged equipment and specialist personnel to help with the ongoing rescue operation. The cause of the collapse is under investigation, with initial reports pointing to structural weaknesses in the building.
The tuition centre was operating on the top floor of a commercial property that had been illegally converted. Local officials have ordered a full safety audit of similar facilities across the city. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue teams continue their search.
