Russian air strikes on Kyiv early this morning killed at least nine civilians and reduced a historic 12th-century cathedral to rubble, Ukrainian authorities said. The attack, which targeted the central district, also damaged several residential buildings and a school. The British Foreign Secretary described the strikes as an act of barbarism, calling for an immediate international response.
The cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, had stood for centuries as a symbol of Ukrainian national identity. The strikes underscore Russia’s escalating campaign against civilian infrastructure amid stalled peace talks. Ukraine’s President condemned the attacks as a deliberate attempt to erase Ukrainian history and culture.
