Russian missiles levelled a residential block in central Kyiv early this morning, killing at least 12 civilians and wounding 30 more, officials said. The attack, which targeted a densely populated district, tore through several apartment buildings, leaving a trail of rubble and twisted metal. Ukrainian authorities credited British-supplied air defence systems with intercepting eight out of 12 incoming projectiles, preventing a higher casualty count.
The strike underscores the fragile state of Ukraine’s air defence, which continues to rely on Western weaponry to counter Moscow’s renewed aerial campaign. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the bombardment as a "cowardly act of terror"
and reiterated the UK’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. The incident comes as Russian forces intensify efforts to degrade civilian infrastructure ahead of winter. The United Nations has called for an immediate halt to attacks on residential areas, but no ceasefire is in sight.
The flattened flats now stand as a grim monument to a conflict that shows no signs of abating.
