This is not a tactical adjustment. It is a deliberate escalation. Russia's largest aerial assault on Kyiv since the start of the full-scale invasion has killed at least 18 civilians and wounded dozens more.
The strike, which involved a coordinated wave of cruise missiles and drones, targeted critical infrastructure and residential areas in the early hours. The Kremlin's intent is clear: to break Ukrainian morale, degrade air defence capabilities, and test NATO's resolve. The UK has responded by calling for an immediate NATO air defence surge.
This is not a request. It is a strategic imperative. The threat vector is expanding.
Without a rapid reinforcement of surface-to-air systems, Ukraine's skies will remain porous, inviting further mass casualty events. The question is not whether Russia will strike again, but when and with what. NATO must pivot from deliberation to deployment.
Every delay costs lives and strategic ground.
