Seven people have been killed and several others wounded in a drone strike on a civilian bus in Russian-occupied territory in eastern Ukraine, according to reports from the region. The attack took place near the town of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region, an area under Russian military control since early in the conflict. Local authorities aligned with Moscow confirmed the strike, stating that the bus was hit while traveling along a road.
The use of drones in the conflict has become increasingly common, with both sides deploying unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance and targeted strikes. This incident underscores the persistent dangers faced by civilians in areas of active hostilities, even behind front lines. The Russian-installed administration has blamed Ukrainian forces for the attack, though independent verification remains difficult due to restricted access to the region.
Ukraine has not immediately commented on the incident. The United Nations and international organisations have repeatedly called for the protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian law in the conflict.
