SpaceX has today launched its most ambitious vehicle yet, the Starship V3, a towering behemoth standing at 150 metres tall and capable of lifting over 200 tonnes to low Earth orbit. The launch, which took place from the company's Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas, was flawless and marks a significant leap forward in America's bid for space dominance. As the 33 Raptor engines roared to life, the V3 lifted off with a force that shook the ground for miles around.
The spacecraft is designed for fully reusable missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond. Critics worry about the environmental impact and the militarisation of space, but Elon Musk remains defiant, stating that this is humanity's ticket to becoming a multiplanetary species. The success of this test puts increasing pressure on competitors like China and Russia, who are also developing heavy lift rockets.
Yet for now, the US retains its edge in the new space race.
