A former student opened fire at a school in the southern Philippines on Tuesday, killing three people before taking his own life. The incident occurred at a high school in the town of Marawi, Lanao del Sur province. Police said the gunman, identified as a 20-year-old man, targeted a teacher and two students whom he held responsible for bullying him during his time at the school.
The attack ended with the gunman turning the weapon on himself. A fourth person, a security guard, was wounded. The United Kingdom issued a statement condemning the attack, saying it was “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life, particularly of children.
” The British government urged Philippine authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and called for greater protection of students and teachers. The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Philippine schools, raising concerns about youth safety and mental health support in the country.
