A tourist train overturned in the Andalusian town of Cártama on Saturday evening, injuring 17 people, three of them seriously. The incident occurred during a local tapas festival, which had drawn crowds to the narrow streets of the historic centre. Emergency services, including ambulances and fire crews, arrived at the scene within minutes.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation, but initial reports suggest a mechanical failure or track obstruction. The train, a low-speed open-sided vehicle popular with visitors, was carrying approximately 40 passengers. The seriously injured include two children and one adult, all transported to Hospital Regional de Málaga.
Local authorities have cordoned off the area and suspended the festival pending a safety review. This incident raises questions about the regulation of tourist transport in dense urban settings during peak events.
