The National Mall’s iconic Reflecting Pool has become a green, slimy mess, and President Trump has had enough. Sources confirm that on Monday, Trump issued an executive directive demanding immediate repair of the pool, which has been overtaken by a stubborn algae bloom. The pool, a centrepiece of Washington’s memorial landscape, has been closed for weeks as the National Park Service struggled to contain the outbreak.
Trump, reportedly furious that the pool looked “disgusting” during his recent visits, ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to step in. “He wants it fixed now. No more delays,” a White House aide said.
The directive, obtained by this reporter, calls for a full drainage and chemical treatment within 10 days. The cost, estimated at $2.3 million, will be diverted from the Department of the Interior’s maintenance budget.
Critics say this is a political stunt. The pool has suffered from algae for years, but Trump’s sudden interest has raised eyebrows. “He only cares about optics,” a former Park Service official said.
“The pool is a symbol, and he wants it pristine for his photo ops.” The Army Corps has already begun pumping out the green water. Workers in hazmat suits are spraying algaecide.
The project is expected to be completed by July 4, just in time for the holiday crowds. Trump has not visited the pool since the order, but aides say he is “watching closely”.
