British consular support has been activated for a UK actress charged with importing approximately A$300 million worth of methamphetamine into Australia. The individual, whose name has not been released pending formal identification, appeared before a Sydney court on Monday facing drug trafficking offences that carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Australian Federal Police allege the substance was concealed within industrial machinery shipped from the United Kingdom.
The case underscores ongoing cooperation between British and Australian authorities in combating transnational drug networks. A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed that consular assistance was being provided. Further hearings are scheduled for next month.
