A British actress has been charged with attempting to import approximately £240 million worth of methamphetamine into Australia, in what authorities describe as one of the largest drug seizures in the country’s history. The woman, identified as 31-year-old Sienna West, was arrested at Sydney Airport after customs officers discovered 50 kilograms of the crystalline substance concealed in her luggage. The methamphetamine, estimated to have a street value of $A450 million, was believed to be destined for distribution across the eastern seaboard.
West, who has appeared in minor roles in British television productions, appeared in court on Monday where she was denied bail. The case underscores Australia’s ongoing struggle with methamphetamine trafficking, a market driven by high domestic demand and substantial profits for organised crime groups. The Australian Federal Police have indicated that the investigation remains active, with potential links to international syndicates being explored.
West is due to appear in court again in March.
