The funds will be channelled through the United Nations and international NGOs to provide food, medicine, and shelter for millions fleeing hyperinflation, political repression, and collapsing public services. Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that the aid is a moral imperative and aims to prevent a regional destabilisation.
The move follows a solidarity summit in London with Latin American leaders and a sharp increase in Venezuelan refugees crossing into Colombia and Brazil. Critics argue that the package is insufficient given the scale of the disaster, but the Foreign Office insists it will work with allies to increase pressure on the Maduro regime while addressing urgent human needs.
