British intelligence has assessed that Moscow is preparing a major offensive in the Donbas region, with a critical threat to the city of Kramatorsk. The Ministry of Defence reported on Wednesday that Russian forces have massed armour and artillery near the city, indicating a renewed push to capture key Ukrainian strongholds. Satellite imagery confirms a significant build-up of troops and equipment along the front line, including T-90 tanks and multiple launch rocket systems.
Analysts believe the Kremlin is seeking to secure the Donbas before the first anniversary of its full-scale invasion. The Ukrainian General Staff acknowledged the increased pressure but insisted its defensive lines remain intact. Kramatorsk, a strategic railway hub, has been under sporadic shelling for weeks.
The UK assessment underscores the risk of a new phase of heavy fighting as both sides prepare for what could be a decisive confrontation in the east.
