The latest escalation between Israel and Iran is not a mere skirmish. It is a strategic pivot by Tehran, using proxy volatility to mask a broader consolidation of power. Every missile launch from Gaza, every Houthi drone over the Red Sea, serves to drain Israeli resources while Iran’s nuclear program advances unimpeded.
The West’s reaction has been predictable: condemnation, sanctions that lack teeth, and a hope that diplomacy will somehow prevail. This is a miscalculation of the highest order. Iran’s chess game is clear: provoke Israel into overreaching, thereby destabilising the region, and use the chaos to secure a breakout nuclear capability.
British intelligence must read the threat vectors: a simultaneous cyber assault on critical infrastructure, a naval blockade in the strait of Hormuz, and a coordinated terror campaign in Europe. Our military readiness is a liability; stockpiles are low, deterrence is eroded. We need immediate and robust diplomatic engagement to forge a unified stance, not the usual limp-wristed communiqués.
Time is a weapon Tehran is using against us.
