Sources confirm that a Russian warship fired warning shots across the bow of a British yacht in the English Channel this morning. The vessel, identified as the Russian corvette *Steregushchiy*, had been shadowing the yacht for over an hour before the incident. Witnesses report that the yacht, a 50-foot vessel registered in Poole, ignored repeated radio calls to alter course.
The Russian ship then discharged three rounds from a deck gun. No damage or casualties have been reported. The Royal Navy immediately scrambled two Typhoon jets from RAF Coningsby, which conducted a low pass over the Russian ship.
The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the incident but declined to comment further. Sources indicate that the UK is preparing a formal diplomatic protest. The incident marks the most serious confrontation in the Channel since the Cold War.
