A US airstrike has eliminated Carlos Enrique Gómez, the leader of the Venezuelan criminal organisation Tren de Aragua. British intelligence sources have confirmed that shared data facilitated the operation. The strike, carried out over the weekend, targeted a suspected hideout in a remote region of Venezuela.
London has not officially commented, but Whitehall sources acknowledge the UK supplied satellite imagery and communications intercepts. The gang was responsible for a series of kidnappings and drug trafficking operations that had destabilised parts of northern South America. Critics have raised concerns about extrajudicial killings, but the Home Office stressed that the target was a legitimate military objective.
The operation marks a significant escalation in international cooperation against organised crime. Families of the gang’s victims have expressed relief, while human rights groups demand transparency. The Venezuelan government has condemned the strike as a violation of sovereignty.
