Canberra. American and Japanese special forces have been running secret jungle warfare exercises in the Australian outback, according to defence sources. The drills, which took place over several weeks in the remote Northern Territory, involved elite units from all three nations.
The operations were not publicly announced, reflecting growing security cooperation among the three allies in the face of an assertive China. Australia has increasingly become a staging ground for joint military activities, hosting rotational deployments of US Marines and expanding defence ties with Japan. The latest exercises are part of a broader trend of deepening trilateral security cooperation, including the AUKUS pact and regular joint drills designed to enhance interoperability in the Indo-Pacific region.
