British intelligence has intercepted communications suggesting a clandestine military and economic pact between Beijing and Pyongyang, sources confirm. The deal, reportedly sealed during Xi Jinping’s visit to North Korea, threatens to destabilise the Korean Peninsula and breach UN sanctions. Whitehall sources say the pact includes Chinese investments in North Korean missile infrastructure in exchange for exclusive access to rare earth minerals.
The Foreign Office has issued a stern warning, calling the move a ‘dangerous escalation’. This comes as satellite imagery reveals new construction at known North Korean test sites. Documents uncovered by this newsroom show Chinese state banks have been funnelling capital through front companies in Macau and Hong Kong.
The UK is now pushing for emergency UN Security Council consultations.
