A fire tore through a commercial building in central Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday, killing at least 21 people and leaving several others injured. Officials confirmed that foreign nationals were among the dead, though their nationalities have not yet been disclosed. The blaze, which broke out around 3:00 a.
m. local time, is believed to have started on the ground floor of a four-storey structure housing offices and a restaurant. Emergency services arrived within minutes, but the fire spread rapidly through the building's narrow stairwells, trapping many victims on upper floors.
Rescue operations continued for several hours as firefighters battled the flames. Delhi's Chief Minister described the incident as a "tragedy"
and announced compensation for the families of the deceased. An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way, with initial reports suggesting an electrical short circuit may be responsible. This incident follows a series of deadly fires in Indian cities, raising renewed concerns about building safety regulations and enforcement.
