The Palestinian health ministry has confirmed the death of a four-month-old baby girl after she was shot by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank. The infant, named Lina al-Bustanji, was killed during a military raid in the town of Beita, south of Nablus. Witnesses report that the child was in a vehicle with her family when Israeli troops opened fire.
The Israeli military stated that its forces were responding to attacks from armed Palestinians and that it is investigating the incident. The baby's death has drawn widespread condemnation from Palestinian officials and human rights groups, who call it a further escalation of violence in the region. This tragedy comes amid a surge in Israeli military operations in the West Bank, where more than 200 Palestinians have been killed this year, including dozens of children.
The international community has urged restraint and a return to dialogue, but for families like the Bustanjis, the cost of conflict is measured in the lives of their youngest members.
