President Donald Trump has threatened to cancel the US Freedom 250 festival, a planned celebration of the nation’s semiquincentennial, following a wave of artist withdrawals. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Cancel it. The so-called ‘artists’ are running away.
They don’t want to be associated with a real celebration of American greatness.” The festival, scheduled for July 4, 2026, in Washington D.C.
, was intended to mark 250 years of American independence. However, several high-profile musicians and performers have pulled out in recent weeks, citing political concerns. Trump’s post also hinted at the possibility of his own appearance, writing: “Maybe I’ll just do it myself.
The people love me. We don’t need these phonies.” The White House has not issued an official statement.
Organisers of the US Freedom 250 festival have declined to comment. The news comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
